A new poll shows support for a ballot measure
that would require English immersion for Hispanic and other
non-English speaking students is decreasing.
A poll commissioned for the Rocky Mountain News and K-C-N-C T-V
shows 42 percent in favor and 49 percent opposed. The sampling
error margin is plus or minus four-point-four percentage points.
Talmey-Drake Research and Strategy surveyed 501 registered
voters for the latest poll.
Another poll released earlier this week also shows decreasing
support for the measure. The Ciruli and Associates poll of 400
people found 37 percent in favor of the initiative and 43 percent
opposed.
That poll also had a sampling error margin of plus or minus
four-point-four percentage points.
Polls in the summer showed strong support for the measure.
Support began to decline after an aggressive television campaign in
opposition.
