Reopening

The ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs will reopen its doors next month, after a three-month break to firm up its plans and finances.

The Hall of Fame and the Museum of the American Cowboy will reopen April Ninth, with activities and appearances by rodeo stars such as Donnie Gay -- an eight-time world champion bull rider and Hall of Fame member.

The facility closed its doors in early January so directors could explore ways to turn it into a moneymaker. Officials say the complex had been operating at a loss -- but private donors and corporations have come through with support.

Directors have also completed development plans that include activities and programs through the summer.

The ProRodeo Hall of Fame opened in 1979 and was expanded in 1996.

A total of 167 people and 22 rodeo animals were inducted prior to the 2004 season.

The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association is also housed at the 13-acre site.
