U.S. Senator Wayne Allard says he plans to meet with Army officials, to ensure continued funding for the decommissioning of weapons held at the Pueblo Chemical Depot.
His announcement comes shortly after a Department of Defense memo was leaked. The memo says the Army intends to sharply cut funding for the destruction of chemical weapons at the site and at Blue Grass Army Depot in Kentucky.
Allard says he was surprised to hear about the memo, and he plans to hold a meeting with Army officials and other members of Congress from Colorado.
During a town meeting in Fremont County, Allard heard from residents about concerns that the weapons could be shipped to an incinerator in Utah. Allard says it's unlikely they'd be put on trains going through Canon City.
