A CSU-Pueblo Professor says in a letter to the Pueblo Chieftain that he did not say what one student accuses him of saying.
Dr. Dan Forsyth is under investigation for classroom comments one students is calling racist. The student also claims Forsyth, an anthropology professor, made inappropriate comments toward her in class.
Forsyth has been teaching at C-S-U since 1983.
The comments are alleged to have occurred last week during one of Forsyth's classes. University officials are interviewing other students in the class in addition to talking with the woman who filed the complaint.
20-year old freshman Victoria Watson sent a letter to the Dean last week outlining her concerns.
In the letter, a copy of which has been obtained by 11 News, Watson says "he (Forsyth) completely lashed out about the American system giving sympathy to us lazy, bitter Mexicans who don't deserve to be here."
In a letter printed in Wednesday's Pueblo Chieftain, Forsyth said "I want to take this opportunity to state publicly that I did not make those remarks."
University President Ron Applbaum released a statement Tuesday saying "... the University takes seriously such incidents that may hamper a student's ability to express themselves," and added "the University is actively investigating the student complaint about the alleged inappropriate comments made by the professor"...
Applbaum says the investigation should be completed later this month.
Dr. Forsyth told 11 News he did not want to comment on-camera matter given that the matter is under investigation.
