Fire Crews Called To Ray Nixon Power Plant

Fire crews were called to a Colorado Springs Utilities power plant on Ray Nixon Road in Fountain Monday afternoon due to a fire inside some machinery.

The Ray Nixon Power Plant is a coal-fired plant, located at 6598 Ray Nixon Road. The utility says the fire occurred inside of a dust collector that is designed to reduce emissions by collecting coal dust as the fuel travels down a conveyor belt.

The dust collector is a separate facility and nobody was inside at the time of the fire.

The fire was extinguished by automatic sprinklers, Colorado Springs Utilities say. There were no explosions.

Some automatic emergency doors were also opened.
