Witnesses describe it as a case of road rage and, perhaps, taking too many chances behind the wheel.
A multi-car accident at the intersection of Hancock and Union leaves one man dead and sends at least one more to the hospital.
The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
A scene of scattered debris and twisted metal was the result after the driver of a red Acura tried to pass traffic while heading westbound on the Hancock Expressway. And according to Officer Lonnie Spanswick of the Colorado Springs Police Department,
"All of them were traveling at about the speed limit. And, as they came under the bridge, the red Acura appeared to accelerate and pull away and that's when he lost control of the vehicle and crossed the center line into the eastbound lanes."
And that's when cars, heading eastbound, smacked right into the Acura.
In the end, five cars were damaged. The driver is dead and his passenger is in the hospital with injuries.
