Colorado's retired GOP senator plans to join a commercial law firm in Washington, D.C. following his 17 years as a lawmaker on Capitol Hill.
The law firm of Holland and Knight LLP says Ben Nighthorse Campbell will join its government section as a senior policy adviser, and will work out of an office in the nation's capital.
Campbell will also become a member of the firm's Indian Law Practice Group. He had been the only American Indian in the Senate, and served as chairman of the Indian Affairs Committee.
Campbell served three terms in the House and two in the Senate before deciding not to seek re-election.
He was first elected to the Senate in 1992 as a Democrat, but switched parties in 1995.
Campbell has also said he plans to help design a line of camping and outdoor gear, continue his jewelry design business and deliver motivational speeches at colleges and universities.
