Members of the 302nd Airlift Wing will spend 2005 overseas.
Just after noon Sunday, about 2 dozen Airmen deployed from Peterson Air Force Base.
They will provide humanitarian help as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Staff Sergeant Bradley Hayes says they're ready and prepared but admits the hardest part is leaving loved ones, especially their children, behind.
"It'll be rough. Something they need to know their dad stands for country and that's what I want to raise them with."
The group is supposed to serve for a year but their deployment could last longer.
In the coming days, another 2 dozen Airmen will join those who left Sunday.
