Infant Screenings

The state's health department wants to make sure your child is healthy right from the very beginning.

They plan on expanding health screenings for newborns by this time next year.

The health department wants to implement technology called "tandem mass spectrometry" which would quadruple the number of health conditions newborns are checked for.

That could mean identifying health problems early in 18 to 20 more babies every year.

But the first hurdle for the project: asking lawmakers to approve funds for the procedure.
