Campaign Trail Nears End

Candidates scoured the state for last-minute votes over the weekend as they headed for the finish line.

Republicans brought in Vice President Dick Cheney and Democrats were counting on House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt, a Missouri Democrat, to rally weary campaign staffs for the final push. Republican Senator Wayne Allard and Gov. Owens rented a plane to visit Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Grand Junction, and Fort Collins.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rollie Heath embarked Friday on a four-day “Let's Get Colorado Moving Again” bus tour with 19 stops, while Democratic Senate challenger Tom Strickland continued his One Colorado Tour.

State elections director Bill Compton predicted a 70 percent turnout for Tuesday's general election.
