State transportation officials are warning drivers to be prepared for major delays in western Colorado.
A portion of Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon closed Wednesday afternoon because of a semi jackknifed along the roadway. Eastbound lanes of I-70 were shut down at exit 116, which leads to Glenwood Springs and Aspen. Only one westbound lane was open because of the accident.
The cause of the accident is unknown, but C-DOT says light snow is falling in the area, with ice and slush covering parts of the interstate.
Meantime, a multi-vehicle crash closed westbound I-70 at Eagle. U-S Highway 6 is being advised as an alternate route.
And, avalanches have shut down two highways in the state. US Highway 550 -- also known as Red Mountain Pass -- is closed, along with Colorado state Highway 65 north of Skyway, located about 30 miles east of Grand Junction.
