The penguins went without a proper cooling system and employees used their own money to pay for animal's food and medicine while the former controller used zoo money for personal gain. That's according to prosecutors who say Elaine Brewer embezzled money during her three years as the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo's top financial officer. Brewer has been sentenced to seven years in prison for embezzling more than 207-thousand dollars. The 59-year-old Brewer pleaded guilty to computer crime and theft -- both felonies. Authorities say she used the money for ocean cruises, gambling trips and to remodel her house. Brewer worked for the zoo from 1997 to February 2002 -- when she was fired.
