Authorities have released the identity of a man found dead near a popular hiking area over the weekend.
A group of hikers were coming down a trail in Cheyenne Canon shortly before dusk Saturday when they spotted a body lying near the edge of the path. Based on evidence at the scene, police believe the victim had tumbled down a 200-foot incline.
The man has been identified as 1st Lt. Bao Huy Vo, 24. He has been stationed at Fort Carson since May 2013, and deployed to Kuwait last year from July until November.
Vo is part of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.
Fort Carson says he has received the following awards:
- Army Achievement Medal
- National Defense Service Medal
- Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal
- Global War on Terrorism Service Medal
- Army Service Ribbon
The cause of death has not been released, but foul play is not suspected.
Cheyenne Canon is located on the southwest end of the Springs, near Seven Falls and about a mile from The Broadmoor hotel.
