More than 700 people laced up their shoes New Year's Day for the 30th Annual Rescue Run at Palmer Park. All proceeds benefit the El Paso County Search and Rescue Team.

El Paso County Search and Rescue is a non-profit, all volunteer organization funded entirely through donations.

"We receive no taxpayer money," said Patrick Kerscher, ELCSAR President, "Every dime we get goes to rescue equipment, ropes, pulleys, the vehicles you see behind us."

Volunteers are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On average, they respond to 80 calls each year to help save lives in Southern Colorado.

"I work with a guy who is a volunteer. They do a great job," said participant Dave Anderson.

The Rescue Run is their only fundraiser of the year. More than $6,000 was raised in the event. The money will help search and rescue buy new vehicles, ropes and equipment.
