Ski Season Opens

Updated: Fri 8:30 AM, Oct 18, 2002

Loveland Ski Area in central Colorado is the first ski resort in the nation this season to open its slopes to skiers.

Artificial snow making machines the past few days created a
15-inch base on a nearly mile long run that drops one thousand
vertical feet. One lift opened at nine this morning.

Some skiers and snowboards camped out overnight to get their
first chance at skiing this season.

Loveland reclaimed the earliest opening status from Copper
Mountain, which opened first last year. Copper remained open one
day before closing again.

Loveland opened on October 18th last year and remained open all
season.

Other ski areas will begin opening in early November.
