(Denver-AP) -- Colorado health officials have turned back a request by Cotter Corporation for permission to bring tens of thousands of tons of radioactive dirt to its uranium mill in Canon City.
But the state health department left open the option for review if Cotter changes some of its plans.
Cotter applied last February to bring in the low-level, thorium-laced soil being removed from industrial properties on a Superfund cleanup site in New Jersey.
But an uproar by Canon City residents prompted Governor Owens to block the shipments last February -- pending state health department review of the plans.
