(Georgetown, Colorado-AP) -- Colorado's Loveland Ski Area plans to become the first ski resort in the nation to open Thursday when it fires up one lift at 9 am.
Manmade snow, a foot of natural snowfall and cold temperatures will allow Loveland to open the chairlift, which serves three runs.
Resort officials say base depths will be ten to 20 inches. Planned opening dates listed on other Colorado ski areas' Web sites include Copper Mountain on November second; Winter Park on Nov. 13; Breckenridge on Nov. 15 and Vail on Nov. 22.
Steamboat Springs, Aspen and Snowmass will open Thanksgiving Day weekend and Crested Butte is scheduled to start its season on Dec. 14.
