(Vail-AP) -- Freezing rain coated Interstate 70 with ice early Sunday morning, causing dozens of accidents and shutting down the freeway for about three hours over Vail Pass.

Captain Ron Prater of the Colorado State Patrol says drivers were unprepared for the weather and a lot of people were caught off guard.
He says the driver of a tow truck has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after sliding into an ambulance carrying injured people. In another accident, the driver of a
Chevrolet Suburban had to be airlifted to a hospital after the SUV rolled over. The driver's condition was not immediately known.
