A recent child death at an unlicensed day care in Aurora is causing state officials to examine safety in the state's child care facilities.
No state agency currently tracks whether unlicensed care centers increase the risk of child deaths.
But a group called the Colorado Foundation for Families and Children plans to conduct a joint study with the Department of Human Services.
Twenty-one children have died in day cares since 1994. Deaths have happened in many ways, ranging from abuse to drownings to chokings.
