One in five hunters submitted their deer and elk for chronic wasting disease testing during the first part of hunting season. That's far fewer than state wildlife officials anticipated. Hunting seasons for archers and muzzleloaders just concluded. The first rifle season begins Saturday. The state is geared up to test as many as 50-thousand animals over the course of the season. It lasts in its various categories from August 31st to December 14th. If the number of animals taken during hunting season is comparable to last year, the 17-hundred-60 tested this year would only be about 19 percent of the total. Fourteen animals have tested positive for the disease.
