Kobe Bryant Case

Lawyers for the woman accusing Kobe Bryant of sexual assault will not file another lawsuit in California.

Attorney L. Lin Wood says he has abandoned plans to file a civil lawsuit against Bryant in state court in southern California where Bryant lives.

The move would have allowed the woman to seek more money damages from the NBA star. There is no cap on monetary damages for pain and suffering in California, but Colorado law caps such damages at $366,000.

Wood says the woman was concerned moving the case would delay the case. Her lawsuit is pending in U.S. District Court in Denver.

The federal lawsuit seeks money damages for the emotional injuries the woman has allegedly suffered since her encounter with Bryant in a hotel near Vail in June 2003. Bryant has said the sex was consensual.

The woman sued Bryant three weeks before prosecutors dropped their criminal case, citing the woman's desire to no longer participate.
