Colorado Springs police are looking to see if a suspected serial rapist is responsible for any crimes here in Southern Colorado.

James Allen Selby was arrested at the Veterans Medical Clinic in Colorado Springs on Tuesday. He is wanted for a string of sexual assaults in Arizona, California, Nevada and Oklahoma.

Police said the 35-year-old was arrested on a federal warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. He appeared in court on Wednesday afternoon, and is being held in the El Paso County jail without bond, awaiting extradition.

He's wanted in Oklahoma for a 1999 assault on a child and in Arizona in a series of rapes and sexual assaults in 2001 and this year. He's also under investigation for a series of assaults in San Diego and for an attack on a 12-year-old in Nevada.

Police said the U.S. Marshal's Service notified police that Selby was at the Veterans Administration outpatient clinic. Earlier, VA facilities had been notified to watch out for Selby, who is a veteran. A nurse at the Springs facility recognized him, and called authorities.
