This year's elections turned out to be must see TV as politicians, campaigns, and outside groups broke the bank to get their messages on television.

According to media watchers, political spending hovered around $1.5 billion nationwide. That's double the amount spent in 2000.

In the state, spending topped $45 million. Stations in Southern Colorado grabbed $5 million of that.

Ad spending shattered expectations, especially with the rise of 527 groups.

Other factors include a high-profile Senate and Presidential race and a resurgence in Democratic support.
