About eleven percent more people voted early or with absentee ballots in this election than in the presidential election in 2000.

A spokeswoman for the Colorado secretary of state's office says nearly 864,000 people voted early or by absentee. That compares to more than 775,000 people in 2000.

Lisa Doran predicts voter turnout will be between 70 percent to 75 percent this year. In 2000, there was a 70 percent turnout.

Some polls had long lines when they opened, including one in suburban Fort Collins that was two blocks long.

Sally O'Donnell of Lakewood says she stood in line about 30 minutes, but felt it was important to vote because she was unhappy with the direction the country was headed. She even switched from an unaffiliated voter to Democrat.
