Heavy snow and gusting winds forced the closure of Loveland Pass on Thursday. More than a foot of snow had fallen in some areas of the central and northern mountains by midday.
The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings for both the central and northern mountains.
It will further add to a snowpack that has been recovering from five years of drought. As of Thursday it was 108% of the 30-year average.
The only area with below 100% was the northern mountains, with 98%, and the fresh snow should boost that figure.
Strong winds also were likely, reducing visibility.
