Brigadier General Dana Born replaces Brigadier General David Wagie, who retired in August, as the leader of the Air Force Academy.
Born oversees more than 500 undergraduate courses for some four-thousand cadets in 30 academic disciplines.
President Bush nominated Born in July. She was previously a professor and head of the Behavioral Sciences and Leadership Department at the academy.
The 1983 academy graduate also holds master's degrees from Trinity University and the University of Melbourne, as well as a doctorate from Penn State.
Wagie became dean of faculty in 1998.
He was later criticized for failing to recognize a growing sexual assault problem, brought to national attention by the investigative team at Denver's K-M-G-H--T-V.
