Potential Election Lawsuits

The secretary of state has hired a bipartisan team of lawyers to defend her in any lawsuits that might be filed over election issues.

Attorney General Ken Salazar normally represents state agencies in court.

But this year he's recused himself from representing Colorado's top election official because he's running against Republican Pete Coors for an open Senate seat.

A spokesman for Republican Secretary of State Donetta Davidson says two Republicans and two Democrats were selected to be fair to both sides.

However, state Democratic Party chairman Chris Gates says the party was never consulted on who would be chosen and says the team is bipartisan only in the most technical sense of the word.

Republican state chairman Ted Halaby said the hiring of the team was a sign of how hotly contested this election will be.
