(Colorado Springs-AP) -- The names of 343 firefighters who died at the World Trade Center were officially added to the Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial in Colorado Springs.

Familes, friends and colleagues gathered in the shadow of Pikes Peak to remember them and other firefighters who died in the past year. A total of 425 names of those who died in Canada and the United states were added.

The number is nearly six times the 74 names added to the granite walls at the memorial during last year's ceremony. A spokesman for the International Association of Fire Fighters says no one hopes ever to have such a toll again.

The memorial was set up in Colorado Springs in 1988 and includes about 15-hundred names.
