Colorado Springs has lost a beloved member of the community this weekend.

Former Mayor Leon Young died Saturday.

Young spent nearly 30 years with the Colorado Springs City Council.
He took over the position in 1997 when then-mayor Bob Issacs stepped down.

He was the first African-American to hold the position.

Young died of natural causes. He is survived by 3 siblings, his wife, daughter, and grandson.

Announcements for services are pending but will likely be held at the end of the week.

He was 80-years-old.
