Interest Rises in Organ Donor Website

The medical director of the Web site that set up a kidney transplant this week in Denver says interest in the service is increasing.

Doctor Jeremiah Lowney of Matching Donors. com says more than
300 people have volunteered to become organ donors this week and
more than 30 people are interested in using the site to receive an
organ.

Lowney says the response is almost certainly caused by the publicity surrounding the kidney transplant conducted Wednesday, the first surgery set up through the commercial Web site.

He was in Denver Thursday visiting with the recipient, Bob Hickey
of Edwards, and the organ donor, Rob Smitty of Chattanooga Tennessee at Presbyterian Saint Luke's Medical Center.
