Murder-Suicide Investigation

Colorado Springs police are now calling the deaths of a local couple a case of murder-suicide.

Emergency crews responded to the home on Armstrong Avenue around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. They found two people dead. One woman was strangled and a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police identify the woman as Carolyn Seddon, 43, a mother of two. They say the man was her former boyfriend. His name has not yet been released.

Investigators say it was a horrifying ordeal leading up to the deaths. They say Seddon's boyfriend was at the house on Tuesday afternoon waiting for her. He ambushed her 13-year-old son as he came home from school, tying him up and gagging him.

Then, when Seddon arrived about an hour later with her 2-year-old grandson, he strangled her, and then shot himself with a shotgun. The toddler was not injured. Police then say the teen managed to free himself from his restraints and ran to a neighbor’s house to call 9-1-1.

Neighbors say Seddon lived a quiet life with her 13-year-old son and 2-year-old grandson. And they’re shocked to hear what happened. One friend says they never fought, but she believes Seddon recently told her boyfriend she wouldn't marry him.

Seddon worked as a radiographer at Memorial Hospital for four years. Her son and grandson are now staying with relatives.
