Gubernatorial Campaign

Updated: Tue 11:49 AM, Oct 08, 2002

Governor Bill Owens and Democratic challenger Rollie Heath are trying to prove that they are in touch with the dominant political issues in Colorado.
While campaigning, Heath hitched a ride on a fire truck to symbolize the crises facing the state. Owens rode a horse to show that he is a man of the West. Both say they can do the best job helping Colorado cope with the triple whammy of a struggling economy, the drought and the aftermath of devastating wildfires.
Although Owens has an edge in fund-raising and voter support in
the latest polls, political analysts expect the race to tighten as the November 5th election nears.
