Heating Up

The mercury goes down but heating prices could be on their way up.

Xcel Energy is asking for a rate hike approval that could more than double natural gas bills between October and November.

The company says it's because of rising demand, and a shortage in supply.

The average household can see a heating bill jump from about $46 a month to $94 if the Public Utilities Commission approves the hike.

Small businesses can see their bills jump from $210 per month to $433.
