Lawyers for all three defendants accused of trying to blackmail Denver Nuggets' star Carmelo Anthony argue their clients committed no crimes.
One lawyer says his client was negotiating a contract on behalf of the other men and the case should be in civil, not criminal court.
The three were arrested Tuesday night at the Trump International Hotel in New York after an undercover agent gave one of the men a check for one-point-25 million dollars.
Arrested were two ex-convicts from the Bronx -- 29-year-old Joubert Santos and 26-year-old Jason Pabon -- and New Jersey lawyer 36-year-old Rodrigo Sanchez.
Police say the men had been involved in a previous altercation with Anthony that was videotaped and were seeking to extort up to three (m) million dollars from Anthony.
