Debate for State Attorney General Candidates

By: Associated Press
Updated: Fri 7:45 AM, Oct 04, 2002

Colorado Attorney General Ken Salazar defended his record during a debate among candidates for the post, saying he did nothing wrong when he helped a ski resort get water and when he worked to change the law on sex offender parole.

Green Party candidate Alison Maynard criticized Salazar for his role in allowing the Water Conservation Board to divert water to a ski resort to make snow in 1992. And Maynard says $3 million acres of trust lands have been sold at bargain rates to developers.

Republican Marti Allbright criticized Salazar for not doing more to notify the public after the state Supreme Court ordered the release of convicted sex offenders two years ago.

Salazar says he is proud of his record that included establishment of a special unit to protect seniors, gang units to fight crime and his crackdown on white collar criminals.
