Two more human cases of West Nile virus were confirmed in Colorado Thursday-- bringing the total to five as the peak season for the mosquito-borne illness winds down.
State health department epidemiologist John Pape says the virus was detected in a man from Adams County and a woman from Pueblo County. He did not provide other details about their identities but he says neither required hospitalization and both are expected to recover.
State health officials say the virus has been confirmed in 103 birds and 310 horses in addition to the five humans -- and the cases appear to have a large concentration in Weld County.
