J.D. Power and Associates has ranked local homebuilders to find out how they stack up, when it comes to satisfying customers. It's information you can use if you're shopping around for someone to build your dream home.

The independent study is based on interviews with recent homebuyers in the Denver and Colorado Springs areas. They were asked to rank their homes based on nine factors, including customer service, timely completion of homes, and quality of workmanship.

Colorado Springs realtor Ted Thurber says he thinks surveys like this are a good tool and are beneficial, especially for first-time homebuyers. He says it them a level of confidence that this builder is providing a certain service level.

But Thurber says J.D. Power results may not necessarily change a person's decision to buy, even if the results are negative. He says, the driving force for most buyers is the location they're looking at, the style of the home and the price. He also says people often make home buying decisions based on emotion, something this survey may not influence.
