(Mesa Verde National Park-AP) -- Park officials are opening all areas of Chapin Mesa for the fall on Sunday after a 2,601 acre wildfire kept parts of the attraction closed.
Park officials say daily tours of Balcony House will begin Sunday and it will be open until Oct. 14. Cliff Palace, another cliff dwelling of Ancestral Pueblo people, will be open until Nov. 11.
The fire started July 29 after a lightning strike and was fully contained August 4. It destroyed two employee houses, a sewage treatment plant, and power and telephone lines within hours. It also damaged a million-gallon drinking water tank. No other modern structures were damaged.
One wall of one archaeological feature was scorched, but park officials say none of the park's other ruins was damaged.
