Football Player's Death

Coroner's officials say a freshman Grandview High School football player died Sunday of a closed head injury.

Jacob Snakenberg of Aurora collapsed Saturday during a game against Denver's Thomas Jefferson High School. A medical investigator says it's not clear whether the head injury was new or old, or how Jacob was injured.

Witnesses say the five-foot-eleven fullback had been lining up for what seemed like a normal play Saturday when he collapsed, stood up, then fell again.

On Monday, Jacob's mother spoke to her son's teammates to tell
them how important they were in Jacob's life. Grief counselors were also on hand at Grandview.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
