A middle school student who was stabbed in the neck area in Palmer Lake Tuesday afternoon, has undergone surgery for a ruptured esophagus.

The Palmer Lake Police Department says two 12-year-old boys were in an argument on the bus and when they got off the bus around 3:26 p.m., one of the boys stabbed the other in the face/neck area with a pocket knife at the bus stop outside Palmer Lake Elementary School.

The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital and later flown Children's Hopsital in Denver. The boy is in serious but stable condition with torn muscles in his neck and a ruptured esophagus according to Palmer Lake Police Chief Kieth Moreland. He will be forced to eat from a feeding tube and will remain in the hospital for at least a week.

"It's just scary to know that kids are growing up knowing that it's okay to physically hurt somebody like that," said Wendy Watson who lives across the street from Lewis Palmer Elementary.

The suspect was taken into custody and is still being held at Spring Creek. Moreland tells 11 News they are prepared to file 1st degree attempted murder charges against the suspect.

"We have not recovered a knife, and since [the suspect] is not talking, we may not," said Moreland.

No names are being released because of the age of the children. Both kids are students at Lewis Palmer Middle School.

The kid who was stabbed was bulling the boy who stabbed him. When are the schools, parents, etc going to do something about this! Now this boy is going to have to deal with things way beyond his maturity level all because some kid was torturing him. Yes he should get in trouble, but not like that. How many more incidents like this need to happen before something is done?

Martial Arts perspective: A Student of mine was attacked similarly in high school. He easily disarmed his assailant and held him in a control position without harming him, until authorities arrived... but was PUNISHED with two weeks suspension by school district 20 for being one of the parties in a fight. Kind of stupid. Sadly, children (especially boys) are rarely allowed to "blow off steam" in a controlled environment. Consequently, they do not learn restraint and camaraderie. These very things are learned in a good martial arts program, eliminating problem of bullying while instilling value for life. It's almost certain that the school district and many UN enlightened parents will not consider martial arts training as a solution... Instead they will likely impose more rules that punish only those that try to stay within them. I'm appalled that any school or parent would disallow their children the ability or permission to fight back when it's needed to save their own lives.
