A combative President Barack Obama has rolled out a long-term jobs program before a cheering Labor Day crowd and coupled it with a campaign-season assault on Republicans for causing Americans' hard economic times.

The program will exceed $50 billion to rebuild roads, railways and runways. But it's fate in Congress is in doubt.

GOP leaders instantly assailed Obama's proposal. And Democrats will likely be reluctant to approve additional spending and higher federal deficits just weeks before elections that will determine control of Congress.

Obama said Republican policies have led to record federal deficits and caused "the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression."

Republicans are making it clear that they won't be helping with the plan. Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell says he has "justifiable skepticism." He says Americans are "still looking for the 'shovel-ready' jobs they were promised more than a year ago" in the original stimulus program.

As far as his claim he's being treated like a dog? Well, he Does whine a lot, and his bark carries no bite, spends a lot on his treats, too..and we never have seen his papers....yep, shoe fits.

$50,000,000,000.00? Wow! Seeing it written out is just as bad as hearing about another bill that Obama wants to tack onto our debt. Here is an idea....for that campaign promise of getting people off welfare and back into jobs, DO IT! Anyone who is physically able (which there are tons of them living off the money others work for) train them and make them help rebuild the roads, railways and runways! Give them a paycheck. The money you get from not having to pay them welfare and taxing their paychecks will add up alot by the time a project like this is over. Also, can someone explain to me how this is supposed to give people long-term job stability? Is this just a "I did my part but I wont have to deal with the aftermath because my term will be up by the time a project of this size is finished" type thing? Also, I dont think he should blame Republicans for the US deficit in a speech when he is asking for 50 billion dollars. Seems a little backwards when democrats arent doing so hot either
