Nearly 12,000 cans of soup were used to create a replica of the El Pueblo Trading Post at the Colorado State Fair.

According to Care and Share of southern Colorado CEO Deborah Tuck, the idea came to her in a dream. Now, that dream is a reality inside the small animal building at the fair.

The best part about this massive display is that when it is taken apart, the cans of food will be distributed locally to families in need.

Until then, fairgoers are encouraged to each bring a can of soup to the fair to add to the project.

The project was a joint endeavor by Care and Share and the El Pueblo Museum. It was designed to remind people that hunger doesn't take the summer off.

"El Pueblo was built to help people survive together. We all survive together in this little planet, and bringing a can of soup is part of that," said Tuck.

If you're heading to the fair this weekend and want to help out, you can drop off cans of soup at three fair gates. Those gates are located at the Beulah, Prairie and Arroyo entrances.
