Some looting is reported in Christchurch, New Zealand, after an earthquake measured at 7.4
Residents report collapsed buildings and power outages. But there are so far no reports of injuries, and no tsunami alert was issued.
A police inspector tells New Zealand's National Radio that there's "considerable damage" in the center of the city, with broken shop windows providing easy access for looters.
The mayor says it was a "sharp, vicious earthquake" that caused "significant damage in parts of the city."
One resident of Christchurch says a lot of people fled seaside areas because of fears of a tsunami.
Angela Morgan says the fronts of several buildings in ChristChurch collapsed, with rubble strewn across the roads.
