11 News has confirmed five Fort Carson soldiers were killed in Afghanistan on Monday. They died when insurgents attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device.

The Department of Defense identified the soldiers on Wednesday.

Capt. Dale A Goetz, 43, of White, S.D. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

Staff Sgt. Jesse Infante, 30, of Cypress, Texas. He was assigned to the 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

Staff Sgt. Kevin J. Kessler, 32, of Canton, Ohio. He was assigned to the 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

Staff Sgt. Matthew J. West, 36, of Conover, Wis. He was assigned to the 71st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group.

Pfc. Chad D. Clements, 26, of Huntington, Ind. He was assigned to the 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

Staff Sgt. Infante's fiance tells 11 News he was a hard working man, who was loved by a lot of people. She's seven months pregnant with a little boy.

Captain Dale Goetz was in the Army for 10 years. During that time, he touched the lives of many soldiers he served as an Army Chaplain.

"He was a great guy. He loves the lord and loves his country. Most of all his passion was to serve Jesus Christ and that's why he was a chaplain," said Pastor Jason Parker.

Now, his family is looking for spiritual help as they mourn his loss.

Parker says Captain Goetz and his family interviewed for membership at High Country Baptist Church in Colorado Springs on August 1st, the day he deployed. They were officially voted into the church last Sunday, the day before he died.

"We were certainly glad to be getting to know them and just sad that it was so short lived," said Pastor Parker.

Goetz leaves behind a wife and three sons under the age of 10.

"The youngest is too young to know too much. But the older two are struggling with it, still trying to come to grips with what it means that their father is gone," said Pastor Parker.

My deepest sympathies for Chaplain Goetz's family. He was a good friend and a fine Christian servant.
