Two children had to be taken to the hospital Tuesday evening after both were hit by cars in different accidents in Colorado Springs.

One child was hit on in a car wash parking lot near the interesction of Hancock Expressway and S. Academy Blvd. The victim is two years old and was hit by a Hummer after wandering away from his father, who was vacuuming out a separate car.

The child was rushed to the hospital with serious head injuries, and was last reported in critical condition. The driver of the Hummer had not been drinking or taking drugs, and no charges will be filed against them.

The other accident happened on the east side of the city on Trout Creek Pass Dr., near Powers and S. Carefree. The child in that accident was a four-year-old boy who was trying to cross the road in front his home when a sedan driven by 18-year-old Joseph Barton hit him. Barton told police the sun glare blocked his vision.

The child suffered head and torso injuries, but police say they are not life-threatening. He was taken to Memorial hospital.

Barton was cited for careless driving resulting in injury and for driving too fast on that neighborhood street.

People now days are so heartless. Who are any of you to judge those parents. My prayers go out to the parents and the children.

You know whats great is that everyone complains about how negligent these parents are.We are all negligent to some extent and i say this because how many of us move over when you see a tow truck driver on the side of the road trying to help a stranded motorists.I lost track of how many times i have almost been killed loading cars.Is it bad that i feel safer loading cars on i-25 then on a residential street.I feel the worst for the kid yes he was in the wrong but is that his fault or is that lack of teaching?Or is it that somebody probably drives down that road everyday knowing that there are children out their the same time monday through friday. And please look out for children and please look out for emergency personnel. Thank you to all who read this and this was not written to insult or offend anyone. And always lets all work together to keep our children our friends and everyone safe. There is nothing worse than a child getting hurt or being the poor people that have to clean it up

So - I have a 2 yr old. And I wouldn't even consider letting him run around a parking lot. Not for a second, because kids that young have a way of just DOING what they want cuz they don't always understand there can be danger. That's the parents job, understanding and all that. As for the 4 yr old, I have a 10 yr old who was once a 4 yr old. From what I read one of his parents were there, and that didn't stop another careless driver from going way too fast on a residential street. My family lives near Oro Blanco & South carefree, there's a street there people NEVER stick to 25 on. And about 25 children live in the area who like to play outside. Just waiting for another useless person to not pay attention and someone else get hurt. I have friends who tell me I am too protective of my kids, I say that I am a PARENT and just doing my job. Making sure my kids are safe is a #1 priority to me, and if I make sure they don't wander parking lots or cross streets unattended then I'm doing my job
