The Mountain Post is making a big push to help soldiers that are struggling with alcohol and other pressing issues.

Saturday, Colorado Senator Mark Udall was in Southern Colorado to meet with military leaders and find ways to help our heroes.

Our soldiers train, they go to war, but when they come home their world is often upside down. Their lives can also be scarred with substance abuse or mental health issues.

Fort Carson is preparing to launch a new program to fight alcohol abuse. Sen. Udall said our heroes should not have to worry when they ask for help.

"By showing some courage and saying ‘I need some help,’ your career isn't going to be affected," Sen. Udall said.

In February, there were two deadly accidents over the course of one weekend. Both of the accidents involved soldiers allegedly driving drunk.

The Confidential Alcohol Treatment Program or CATEP will start Monday. Sen. Udall also hopes this will open the door to help prevent soldier suicide. A recent study points to alcohol abuse as a gateway to suicides.

"By showing some courage and saying ‘I need some help,’ your career isn't going to be affected," Sen. Udall said. It is appearant that Sen. Udall doesn't know how the Army works out here at Fort Carson. Asking for help usually does get you labeled.

Im glad! They should have done this sooner! Soldiers go through a lot and sometimes we dont realize that they're people too, they shouldnt be punished for having flaws and problems they should be able to get help!
