Shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, a Colorado Springs Police officer followed a 2010 Nissan Rouge into a cul-de-sac off of Circle Drive.

The driver of the Nissan then made a U-turn and began driving at the officer. The officer tried to turn his vehicle out of the way, but the Nissan sideswiped the police cruiser and then continued back onto Circle Drive. The driver then collided with a Volkswagen Passat at the intersection of Circle and Bijou Street before finally coming to a stop.

The driver of the Nissan Rouge, Lucas Serna, was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries before he was arrested for DUI, traffic violations, and numerous other warrants.

Both the Officer and the driver of the Passat were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

I agree Laura, it was one of their own, therefor would have been investigated much faster had the fool not hit someone else and stopped. Be safe - sad for you it took a Family tragedy to make you stop, otherwise you'd probably still be doing it. DWI laws aren't strict enough!! I had 1-20 yrs ago and another over 15 yrs ago and because the classes are so informative I new what I was going to get when I got the 2nd one. I did community service and both alcohol classes before I even went to court, which in the end saved me from going to jail for more than 10 days. It's sad that you get more time for driving w/o a license (auto 30 days) than you do a DWI. It took 2 and thankfully no injuries other than to myself, to get me to stop. Wow - I doubt this is his 1st or last, he seems to live in trouble since he has numerous warrants already. With plea deals and all this might not even be counted, depending on what his warrants are. DUI/DWI laws just aren't strict enough

So glad the officer is all right. Let's review- do not drink and drive. Ever. I used to, every weekend. Never got stopped, never hit anyone and am profoundly grateful. What changed? Two of my beloveds died, that's what changed. Take a cab or stay home. DUI defense starts at 10 large, that's if you don't kill anyone. No cell phone use or texting either. Driving requires your full, sober, and complete attention. The perp in this case is waking up in CJC this morning. Finally fully aware of that truth.

Obviously you haven't been hit and run by a drunk driver and they showed up at the scene to take a report but BECAUSE OF "BUDGET" CUTS refused to look for the drunk driver. You're awfully quick to judge - until it's YOUR TURN! Good luck to you when it is!!!
