Man Charged Following Fatal Car Crash

A 21-year-old woman is dead following a car crash Saturday night at the intersection of Barnes Road and Iron Horse Trail.

Colorado Springs police say Janelle Beebe was ejected from the back seat of a Toyota 4Runner.

Witnesses told 11 News they would never forget the horrible sights and sounds at the scene that night.

"You don't hear those kinds of screams every day," one person told 11 News.

An investigation reveals a Kia SUV was traveling east on Barnes and turned left to go north on Iron Horse. Police say 24-year-old Erin Brietske pulled in front of the 4Runner that was traveling westbound on Barnes. The driver of the 4Runner, 24-year-old William Knowles, crashed into the SUV's side, causing his own vehicle to roll over.

Beebe died at the scene of the accident. Both drivers and two other other passengers were taken to the hospital with various non-life threatening injuries.

Brietske was found to be at fault for the accident and she was cited for "Vehicle Turning Left." But the most serious charges were reserved for the other driver.

Police say Knowles has been charged with vehicular homicide as a result of an investigation into whether he was drunk at the time of the crash. He was booked into the El Paso County CJC, where records indicate he is being held on a $25,000 bond as of Monday morning.
