With the unoffical start of summer many public pools are open for the season, and while it's fun too cool off in a pool during the summer months the pool can also be a dangerous place.
May is National Aquatic Safety Month. It's priority is to highlight the importance of helathy swimming behaviors to prevent recreational water-borne illnesses and promote aquatic education in the community.
There are a number of illnesses can be transmitted through the water, and not all the time can chlorine kill it all.
Here are some healthy habits for recreational swimmers:
1. Don't swim when you have diarrhea
2. Don't swallow pool water or let pool water in your mouth
3. Always shower before and after swimming
4. Wash your hands after using the bathroom and returning to the pool
5. Take children on frequent bathroom breaks
