As the cleanup and recovery effort continues in Haiti, there is word of more destruction and more death from Red Cross workers there.

Officials say a school collapsed today in northern Haiti, killing three children.

The school is located in the city of Cap-Haiten, about 80 miles north of the country's quake-shattered capital, Port-au-Prince.

Schools reopened last week in the north but they remain closed in the capital.

True the large earthquake did an immense amount of damage. True the cleanup will take awhile. Also true, this country lies over a fault line and subduction zone where the North American and Carribean plates meet. There have been SEVERAL more earthquakes before and since the 8.1. There is no secret or surprise that the earth will continue to shake there. (See www.usgs.gov - as of this writing there were 172 quakes of 2.5 or better worldwide just in the last 7 days). It annoys me that the Red Cross seems to be announcing this as if it were something new to try and raise the donation factor. It's not and their history is not so great about passing on donations. Under the French building codes were not defined or enforced and that alone is a huge problem for this quake prone area. Aid is getting to these people as quickly as humanly possible but it will take time. Structures should be checked before they allow people to use them again. How sad the children suffered for it.

That is exactly how I read it also. I thought the red cross was there to help not destroy.

"there is word of more destruction and more death from Red Cross workers there" Why are the Red Cross workers causing more death and destruction?
